Components of a Conventional Septic System

A conventional septic system consists of a septic tank and a leachfield or drainfield. These systems are generally used for single family homes, but some older commercial properties also utilize septic systems for onsite wastewater treatment. The wastewater from your home flows into the septic tank, where it is separated, Inside the tank, the solids form a sludge on the bottom where bacteria partially decompose the solids and the effluent, or clear wastewater, flows out of the tank.

The other component of a conventional septic system is the leachfield. The effluent is dispersed from the septic tank to the leachfield, which is an underground trench of leach rock with sand, dirt, or both on top of the leach rock. The leachfield filters the effluent and microbes in the soil below the leach rock treat the effluent. Because a leachfield takes up a significant amount of space, they are not suitable for every property.

The Importance of Septic Tank Maintenance & Repair

Septic tanks require maintenance and repairs from time to time. When the septic tank becomes clogged or needs repair, you may notice a sewage odor or wet spots on the lawn above the septic tank. It is important to call for repair for your conventional sewer system in Scottsdale at the first sign of a problem to avoid septic system failure, which can cause an unhealthy environment in your home and property damage.

We offer professional repair services for:

  • The lines that carry waste from your home to the septic tank
  • Baffles
  • Septic tank pumping
  • Unclogging or repairing pipes
  • Adding risers to the system

Keeping up with regular inspections and maintenance is the best way to avoid sudden septic system failure. In most cases, a septic tank should be pumped every three to five years, but this can vary depending on the size of the tank, number of plumbing fixtures in use, and the number of people in your home. We can recommend a maintenance schedule that is best suited to your needs.
